Choose Your Exam

A short, no-fluff walkthrough for picking the right certification exam code - the first (and most important) decision in your certification journey.

Picking the wrong exam code is the #1 reason candidates waste months studying. This lesson shows you exactly how to identify, verify, and lock in the exam that matches your professional goal - across 4,300+ codes and 120+ vendors.

What you'll walk away with

  • Identify the exact exam code you need
  • Compare vendor tracks side by side
  • Avoid retired or replaced exams
  • Match the exam to your professional goal
01

Start with your professional goal

Before you look at any exam code, get clear on the role you're aiming at - Cloud Engineer, SecOps Analyst, Network Architect, Project Manager. The exam is the tool; the role is the destination. If your goal is AWS cloud engineering, SAA-C03 is the right first step. If it's cloud security specifically, CLF-C02 → SCS-C02 is a better path.

  • Write the exact job title you want in 12 months
  • Check 5 real job postings - copy the certs they list
  • Prioritise the cert that appears in 3+ postings
02

Verify the exam code is current

Vendors retire exams every 12-24 months. AZ-104 replaced AZ-103. SAA-C03 replaced SAA-C02. Studying a retired exam is the fastest way to waste 3 months. Every KNScert product page shows the live version and last-updated date so you always land on the current release.

  • Check the vendor's official retirement calendar
  • Confirm the version code (e.g. C03, v3, 2024) on our product page
  • Look for 'updated within 30 days' badge before buying
03

Compare vendor tracks side by side

Two vendors can offer overlapping certifications with very different market value. AWS SAA vs Azure AZ-104 both cover cloud fundamentals, but pay differently by region and specialise into different senior paths. Use our vendor A-Z directory to compare exam count, difficulty, and average prep time before committing.

  • Open two vendor pages in tabs
  • Compare number of domains, question count, and passing score
  • Pick the track with better local hiring demand
