Kubernetes AI Track Certifications: 2026 Outlook
CNCF is expanding its Kubernetes certification portfolio into AI workloads for 2026. Here is what is confirmed, what is coming, and who should sit them.
CNCF's 2025 announcement of an AI-focused Kubernetes track was the biggest cloud-native certification news of the year. As GPU workloads move from bespoke clusters to standardised Kubernetes platforms, employers now need engineers who can operate both. The 2026 landscape looks like this.
§Confirmed and expected certifications

- CKA (Certified Kubernetes Administrator) - unchanged core exam, still the baseline
- CKS (Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist) - increasingly cited alongside AI-workload roles
- Kubeflow Certified Administrator - expected to move from beta to GA in 2026
- Certified Kubernetes AI Practitioner - announced by CNCF, blueprint under community review
- Vendor-specific: Red Hat OpenShift AI and NVIDIA AI Enterprise on Kubernetes
§Who should sit them
Platform engineers
CKA first, then the AI Practitioner as soon as it is GA. Platform teams operating AI workloads at scale are the most in-demand hires of 2026.
ML engineers
CKA plus Kubeflow. The single biggest gap in the ML market is engineers who can operate their own training and serving infrastructure.
SREs

CKA, CKS, then the Kubeflow admin exam. GPU-heavy SRE roles pay 25–35% above non-GPU equivalents in 2026.
§Skills the market actually rewards
- GPU scheduling and node autoscaling for large training jobs
- Multi-tenant AI namespaces with quota, priority and cost attribution
- KServe, vLLM and Ray Serve for production inference
- Observability for GPU workloads (NVIDIA DCGM, Prometheus, OTel)
"In 2025 our CKA holders had to teach themselves GPU operator, DCGM and Ray in production. A proper AI certification would have saved us months. 2026 is the year that gap closes."
§FAQs
Is CKAD worth doing?
Yes for developers, but CKA + AI Practitioner is stronger for anyone targeting platform-engineering pay bands.
Do I need NVIDIA training?
Only if your target employer runs NVIDIA AI Enterprise. Otherwise the CNCF track transfers across GPU vendors.
