Cisco Certification Roadmap 2025: The Real Path

Cisco's 2020 restructure is now five years old, and the certification market has settled into a shape very different from the pre-2020 CCNA/CCNP/CCIE ladder. This roadmap reflects what 2025 hiring managers actually filter on - not what Cisco marketing suggests.

§Start here: CCNA 200-301

CCNA remains the single most valuable networking entry credential in 2025. It filters for 70% of junior network engineer roles and is a prerequisite for almost every serious enterprise networking career. Plan 8–12 weeks of study, hands-on Packet Tracer or CML labs, and one full pass through Boson ExSim before booking.

§Pick a track - do not collect all of them

Enterprise (ENCOR + one concentration)

The default and highest-hiring track in 2025. ENCOR 350-401 plus ENARSI 300-410 is still the strongest ROI CCNP combination for enterprise network engineers.

Security (CCNP Security)

Growing fastest. SCOR 350-701 plus a Firepower or ISE concentration opens security engineer roles paying 20–30% more than pure networking.

DevNet (CCNP DevNet)

The most future-proof track. Automation-heavy Cisco environments now expect Python, REST APIs and IaC skills. DevNet Associate first, then Professional.

Service Provider - skip unless you already work at an ISP

CCNP SP is niche in 2025. Only pursue it if you are already inside an ISP or telco; otherwise the effort-to-market-value ratio is poor.

§Realistic timelines and salary bands

LevelTime2025 median salary (US)
CCNA2–3 months$68,000
CCNP (any)6–12 months after CCNA$96,000
CCIE2–4 years total$155,000+
DevNet Pro6–9 months$110,000

§What to skip

  • Cisco Certified Support Technician (CCST) unless you are a complete beginner and need a warmup
  • Collateral vendor exams from Cisco partners - employers rarely recognise them
  • Chasing multiple CCNP concentrations before landing a role that uses one
"CCNA in three months, ENCOR in six, and a Cisco partner job in month nine. The roadmap is not glamorous but it works if you stop collecting badges."
- Rafiq H., Network Engineer, Dhaka

§FAQs

Is CCIE still worth it in 2025?

Yes - but only for engineers already at senior level with a clear specialisation. The lab is expensive, brutal, and best pursued when your employer sponsors it.

Should I do CCNA or Network+ first?

CCNA. Network+ is vendor-neutral and useful for helpdesk, but CCNA opens more doors and is what enterprise employers actually filter on.
