CCIE 2026 Update: What Changes Are Coming
Cisco is refreshing CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure and CCIE Security in 2026. Here is what changes, what does not, and how current candidates should react.
Cisco announced blueprint refreshes for CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure and CCIE Security effective mid-2026. These are the largest CCIE changes since the 2020 restructure. Here is what is confirmed, what is rumoured, and how current candidates should plan.
§Confirmed changes

- Increased weighting on automation and Python across both tracks
- New section on cloud-managed networking (Meraki and Catalyst SD-WAN in the cloud)
- Retirement of legacy DMVPN topics in Security lab
- Refreshed lab topology on newer IOS-XE versions
§Rumoured but unconfirmed
- A dedicated Zero Trust module in CCIE Security
- Removal of the 3-hour design section in favour of a longer troubleshooting block
- Alignment with the new DevNet Expert track for shared automation content
§What current candidates should do
If you have already passed the written and booked a lab date
Sit the lab under the current blueprint. Cisco always honours booked dates during blueprint transitions.
If you have passed the written but not booked
Book a lab date before the transition cut-off if your preparation is already deep. Otherwise, plan to transition to the new blueprint and adjust your automation study now.

If you have not started
Start with the new blueprint. Do not waste time on retiring topics.
"Every CCIE refresh feels bigger than it is. The 2020 restructure was seismic. The 2026 update is meaningful but not seismic. Adjust, do not panic."
§Lab logistics unchanged
- Lab fee remains USD 1,600
- Available at Cisco San Jose, RTP, Brussels, Bangalore, Beijing, Tokyo and Sydney
- Retake wait times unchanged
§FAQs
Should I wait for the refresh?
Only if your automation skills need work. If you are strong on Python, IaC and the classic topics, sit under the current blueprint.
Is CCIE still worth it after this refresh?
Yes. CCIE remains the top single credential in networking and the salary premium in 2026 continues to widen versus non-CCIE seniors.
