Azure Fundamentals AZ-900: The Only Guide You Need
AZ-900 is Microsoft's easiest cert. But an easy pass isn't automatic - here's the 10-day plan, the topics Microsoft weights heavily, and whether AZ-900 is worth your time.
AZ-900 is one of the most-taken certifications in the Microsoft catalog. It's cheap (USD 99), easy compared to AZ-104, and there are legitimate ways to get the voucher free through Microsoft events. But easy doesn't mean automatic - I've seen candidates fail because they underestimated the compliance section. Here's the tight 10-day plan and what actually matters.
§Exam structure
60 minutes, 40–60 questions, mostly single-answer multiple choice with a handful of drag-drop. Pass mark: 700/1000. Available in-person or OnVUE. Free retake voucher issued after most Microsoft Ignite / Virtual Training Days.
| Domain | Weight |
|---|---|
| Cloud concepts | 25–30% |
| Azure architecture & services | 35–40% |
| Azure management & governance | 30–35% |
§The 10-day plan
- Days 1–2: Cloud concepts - IaaS/PaaS/SaaS, public/private/hybrid, CapEx vs OpEx
- Days 3–4: Core Azure architecture - regions, availability zones, resource groups, subscriptions
- Days 5–6: Compute (VMs, App Service, Container Instances, Functions) and storage (Blob, Queue, Table, File)
- Days 7–8: Networking + identity - VNets, VPN Gateway, Entra ID, RBAC
- Day 9: Governance - Policy, Blueprints, Cost Management, Trust Center
- Day 10: Two full practice exams. Aim for 85%+ on MeasureUp or John Savill's tests

§Is AZ-900 worth it for someone in Bangladesh?
Only if you're new to cloud or in a non-technical role. For developers/admins already using Azure at work, skip to AZ-104. AZ-900 by itself won't move your salary - it's a signal, not a qualification.
| Role | AZ-900 worth it? |
|---|---|
| Non-technical PM, sales, HR | Yes |
| Fresh graduate testing cloud interest | Yes |
| IT admin with Azure work already | Skip. Go AZ-104 |
| Cloud-focused developer | Skip. Go AZ-204 |
